As stated at the last Camra regional meeting the Clarendon in Sunderland, home of the Bull Lane brewery was suffering trade loss due to the smoking ban and cheap supermarket sales. As of 07.01.07 the pub now only trades on home Sunderland matchdays (11:00-20:00 sat, 16:00-20:00 midweek) and on Sundays when their is a band on (12:00-19:00). See local press for band coverage.
This will be reviewed when the warmer(?) weather arrives.
Next band on is The Stotting Headaches on Sunday 20th Jan 2008 15:00.
PLEASE NOTE THIS DOES NOT AFFECT THE PRODUCTS OF THE BREWERY ITSELF and these can still be obtained via the usual numbers. (New brews are expected at BOTH the Barley Mow and Beamish Mary beer festivals.

Update: As of 17.01.2008 the pub has been closed down completely. The owner is in the process of obtaining quotes to turn the ground floor bar area into more fermenting space so Sunderland's oldest pub will never open its doors again as the Clarendon. The bar may be kept intact as part of a 'brewery visitor' centre. Again another sad loss of a fine public house.
