Somewehere on Sackville Road, advertised as 1st-2nd Decmber 12-late.

I've got Eric on the case as I have no idea where it is what it sells or anything else other than the poster advertises Black Sheep, Jarrow, Hadrian, Border and Mordue breweries. Obviously not a tick fest but good to see all the same. Cool

Canny Bevvy forum.

Still know little about the beer festival at the Northumberland Hussar on 1st and 2nd December, other than that the advertising I’ve seen calls it the “Chilli Road Beer Festival” and shows pub clips from Wylam, Black Sheep, Jarrow, Hadrian, Border and Mordue breweries – and a Smirnoff logo! Opening hours are given as 12:00pm till late.

We’ll not be able to make it, so all reports welcome.

I popped in on Saturday evening for a look as it is one of my closest three pubs (along with the Chillingham, and the Corner House), but one which I only ever previously visited only for a quick half on the way up to the Coast Road to catch a bus as they didn't have real ale (at least I don't think they had, I only ever looked in the bar section).

The festival beers were in a quite large marquee (about 20m x 10m) in open ground adjoining the pub, where they had a bar in the corner with 11 handpumps. Beers on when I visited were:

Mordue- Howay! In a Manger
Double Maxim- Double Maxim
Wylam- Legless Santa, Haugh Porter
Caledonian- Deuchars IPA
Allendale- Tar Barl Stout
H&B- Centurion, Farne Island
Jarrow- Rivet Catcher, Westoe IPA, JB

The beers I tried were in good condition and tickets for pints were £2.30 each, or you could get five for £10. Live music was on over most of the festival weekend, mainly at the far end of the marquee except late evening sessions which were in the pub itself (undoubtedly for noise reasons).

The landlord is intending to keep four real ales on in the snug in future, which I thought seemed rather optimistic but he seemed confident they would be able to shift enough to support that many. Hopefully he'll be proved right as another pub with good real ale has to be a good thing.
